Brand Citations — Being Mentioned in Sources AI Trusts
AI recommendation systems are trained on vast amounts of web content. Businesses that appear in sources AI trusts — local newspapers, industry publications, review platforms, authoritative directories — carry more weight than businesses that exist only on their own website. This is the digital equivalent of word-of-mouth, but for machines. A mention of your business in a local publication, a positive review on a structured review platform, or a feature in an industry blog all contribute to the brand authority signal that influences AI recommendations. Fix: Identify three external sources where your business should appear but doesn't — a local business journal, an industry directory, a relevant review platform. Robots.txt — Not Blocking the Wrong Visitors
Robots.txt was designed for search crawlers. Most businesses set it up years ago and haven't touched it since. The problem: AI agents use different crawlers than Google.
